Welcome to the Black Creek Storytelling Parade (BCSP) blog!

The BCSP began in 2006 as an event organized by graduate students Liz Forsberg, Amy Hallman and Laura Reinsborough for a graduate environmental education course in the Faculty of Environmental Studies at York University. Continued interest in the project has led to numerous performances. See below for all the different incarnations so far.

We would love to hear your thoughts about the event. Off to the side you'll notice some questions to help get you started but feel free to go off on tangents. We love tangents!

Round 5

Round 5 (April 26, 2007)
The ACE Program Presents:
The Black Creek Storytelling Parade

The April 26th edition was performed with the amazing students of the Advanced Credit Experience (ACE) Program at York. They are highschool students from the Jane-Finch community who, while doing their highschool credits, are simultaneously taking a course at York or Seneca College.

Along with Gaspar Horvath from the Black Creek Project we followed York's stormwater down to the creek, even planting a little reminder of our walk together-- a white pine-- along the path near the Maloca Community Garden.

Round Four (March 22, 2007)
Toronto Tree Tours Presents: The Black Creek Storytelling Parade!

The March 22, 2007 edition was a collaboration with Toronto Tree Tours (an exciting project by LEAF- Local Enhancement and Appreciation of Forests - and the Toronto Public Space Committee), the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority and the Black Creek Project in celebration of World Water Day at York University.

It was a stormy celebration as winds gusted, but a group of very weather-hardy stormwater fanatics made it to the event. The storytellers included Jacki Lavalley,
Todd Irvine, Gaspar Horvath, Steve Joudrey, Andrew Wilson, Shoreham Public School students, Laura Reinsborough, and Liz Forsberg. Four more-than-human storytelling guests also made the trip: a passenger pigeon (Laurel Atkinson), a Canada goose (Marisol Salaya), a brown trout (Ryan Kamstra) , and a traditional Haudenoshonee garden (Jill Tomac). What a turnout! Here are some photos:

A Hybrid Black Creek Storytelling Parade for GEOG 4280

We were invited by Amy Lavender Harris to do a guest tour for her class Imagining Toronto: Intersections of Literature and Place in the Toronto Region. We forgot to take pictures but if you were there we would love to hear your coments!

Round Two

Round Two (September 5, 2006):
The Black Creek Storytelling Parade for MES Orientation

We were invited by GESSA to give a "campus tour" to the incoming MES students. So we followed the route of stormwater down to Black Creek, a part of campus that few MES students take the time to see!
If you were on that tour, please leave us your comments below...
